AIDS House

On Monday we visited a group of families and orphans that have been affected by AIDS.

The children and women that live in the AIDS house are excluded from the community.  The village neighbours don't understand that AIDS is transmitted through blood.  So they treat the people in the AIDS House like they are contagious.

So the village children won't play with the children who have AIDS.  And the adults with AIDS can not get work which means they have been stuck in poverty.

But ICC has been helping the women to earn an income by making and selling doll angels.  This little business makes money so that those in the AIDS house can survive.

But sometimes they still do not have enough food to eat...  (click on Read More)

When we arrived, the people in the AIDS house cooked us lunch - even though the children hadn't been getting enough to eat!  What hospitality and generosity!

But the MAD4Cambodia kids (Sarah, Michael, Ethan, Ryan and Daniel) decided that instead of our group eating, we would skip lunch and let the children eat it instead.

The MAD4Cambodia kids served them lunch, sang songs and played games with the AIDS children and gave out toy cars and teddy bears as we left.

Team Reflections: "What stood out for me..."

Heather: Such a mix of emotions today… I loved singing, playing games and doing rhymes with the kids in a small village. Had to dig deep into my memory bank, we had lots of fun and the kids smiles were priceless!!!  Loved seeing them cuddle the teddies we gave them and so incredibly proud of our kids giving up their lunch so the village kids could have it. About half of the children there have AIDS and it's difficult to think about what the future holds for them but for now it's so great to see them having a happy time together.
